We Are Free

We Are Free is a journey through myth, memory, and collective awakening. This solo exhibition invites one into a sacred space of remembering—where stories buried beneath oppressive systems begin to stir, whisper, and rise. Rooted in the radical power of joy, these works reimagine our relationship to land, each other and the future. 

This project was developed through Mayworks’ Labour Arts Catalyst in collaboration with the Latin American & Caribbean Solidarity Network.

Andre Mandela Lopez is a multidisciplinary visual artist dedicated to freedom, economic justice, food sovereignty, and radical education reform. His work spans murals, digital illustration, sculpture, and tattoos, reflecting a passion for diverse mediums. Through both personal art and community projects, he fosters play and healing, encouraging adults to reconnect with their inner child and the joy of creation. Before fully embracing art as his primary tool for change, Andre studied political science, intending to fight for social justice through policy reform. He was deeply involved in grassroots movements like Occupy Toronto and anti-mining initiatives, advocating for positive systemic change. However, upon graduating, he found the political arena too corrupt for his sensitive artist soul. Understanding transformation happens beyond policy, he chose art as a vehicle for social change, blending activism with creative expression.

Presented with Latin American & Caribbean Solidarity Network (LACSN), a democratic, non-profit, independent organization based in Toronto. LACSN brings together grassroots groups, that carry out solidarity work.
