Immaterial Conditions

Immaterial Conditions illuminates the crossroads where care and the economy meet. Presenting film, photography and sculpture by women and gender-queer artists, the events in this series consider what it means to care.

Fishel’s film considers the commodification of care and the labour that surrounds it through the lens of care workers and their elderly clients in the United States.

Interrupting what capitalism defines as work, Anique Jordan’s photography centres the unwaged labour of Black mothers, grieving children they have lost to violence.

jes sachse calls attention to the lack of care for working people, inherent in the political neglect around Toronto’s housing crisis.

Immaterial Conditions provides a space to enact and embrace caring as a public act.
