The 2005 Festival represented a milestone for Mayworks: 20 years of labour, art and politics.
When Mayworks was first conceptualized in the early 1980’s, a legacy was created for labour arts in Toronto. Through the energy, dedication and many volunteer hours by labour activists and artists, Mayworks was envisioned as a place to bring artists and working people together. The 20th annual Mayworks Festival of Working People and the Arts invited audiences to radically re-invigorate, re-conceptualize and re-envision their work and their relationships to each other.
