Mayworks Festival was built on the idea that working people and artists share common concerns… not the least of which is the right to earn a living wage and to work in a safe environment.
Mayworks ’92 emphasized that art should belong to everyone, not just the elite; and that art can mirror the concerns and crises of society. Up against difficult economic times, where the labour movement and the arts are both under attack, the Festival invited audiences to build new solidarities in venues ranging from community centres and union halls to theatres and galleries.
