Join Who’s Afraid of Labour Justice? artists Nahomi Amberber and Saysah and curator Furqan Mohamed for a hands-on poetry and collage workshop.
Together, we’ll explore the links between fear, labour and labour justice, identity, and community, reflecting on how capitalism impacts our bodies, sense of self, belonging, and ability to organize. Following a facilitated discussion regarding the artists’ practice and exhibition themes, we’ll utilize poetry and collage to express the complexities of navigating our struggles in both “private” and “public” space(s), the tensions within fearing and being feared, existing as hyper-visible and invisible at times, and feelings of alienation.
This workshop invites you to explore fears, desires, comforts, and hauntings by piecing together written word, images, textures, and materials. Together, we’ll create space to reflect, imagine, and reimagine new possibilities for justice and solidarity.
All ages are welcome; no prior experience with either form is required. All Mayworks Festival events are free. Registration required.
Presented with Inter Arts Matrix, an interdisciplinary arts organization and an incubator and producer of interdisciplinary projects in the Region of Waterloo and beyond.
