The Precarity Archives workshop brought together a group of workers from various sectors to explore the connections across their precarious labour conditions. Participants were asked to bring an object that represents an aspect of their past or present labour experiences to become part of the ‘precarity archive’! They were then guided through a documentation process that includes storytelling, recording, and photography using their archival object as a jumping-off point to tell their lived experiences and make connections with the experiences of other workers. By engaging with each others’ stories of precarity, participants were invited to examine larger issues of precarious employment.

This workshop was held at York University in November 2024 and facilitated by Zoë Newman, Vannina Sztainbok, and Zinnia Naqvi. The images resulting from the workshop have been used to create a poster which documents this archive of precarity.

The poster will be launched at the 2025 Mayworks Festival festival launch.
