Art can provide access to the ancestral knowledge that is vital for shaping Indigenous futures.
Keeping Families Together blends traditional, personal and family stories through a collective processes of mural-making and sculpture with youth and families. This 3-day community art action will culminate in the building of a life-sized, multi-media longhouse which echoes the strength of Indigenous families. The installation will be a space to imagine a future in which Indigenous families stay together.
Collaborators: writer Nicole Penak (L’nu, Wolastoqiyik, Eastern Euro), muralist Chief Lady Bird (Chippewa/Potawatomi); multi-media artist, Tash Naveau (Denee/Eastern European); and neurodiverse artist, Vanessa Dion Fletcher (Lenape/Potawatomi), engage in art as decolonial praxis.
