ANTLER MEN OF THE DEPTHS

A reading and visual presentation of a children’s story by emerging artist and life-long learner, Miyopin.

May 5th, 2020
Native Canadian Centre of Toronto
16 Spadina Rd.

Hosting a reading circle, Miyopin will invite feedback on a bold  new piece of children’s literature.

Filled with monstrous and magical characters, Antler Men of the Depths  reveals what happens when best friends, Lawrence and Sinclair, whose families share traplines, are separated from one another in the frozen marsh of James Bay.

A tale of loss, longing and survival, Miyopin imagines their work as a complex anti-dote to the one-dimensional victimizing stories they were made to read about Indigenous Peoples when they were in elementary school.

Miyopin is Illilu (e-lil-eh-lu). They grew up on Treaty 9 territory along the coast of James Bay.
