Each year, for the past 40 years, Mayworks has commissioned an artist to develop the poster art for our annual festival. This year, Michael DeForge carries the tradition forward.  

“I hoped to have a design that could be simple and striking for the Mayworks 40th. Since the intention was to call back to a storied history of art and labour, I wanted to stick to classical symbols of dissent and solidarity – broken chains, raised fists and the labour rose. They’re symbols that have resonated across borders, eras and movements.” – Michael DeForge
